Surfing secured and anonymously with HotSpot Shield
For a while I’ve been trying to view certain websites without them knowing my location. Like most American websites who show video-streams, they don’t allow you to watch if you aren’t in the USA (websites of tv-shows etc, I didn’t mean porn). So one day I found this website named anchorfree.
The website where you can download Hotspot Shield : http://www.anchorfree.com
The name on it’s own says little about what their product does but it sets up a secured connection to the proxy server of their system and fools websites to think you are in the United States. Because of the https connection to their proxy server other people can’t see what you are doing. The website you are viewing will get the IP-address of the proxy server and will hide your own IP-address.
Another benefit of AnchorFree Hotspot Shield is that you don’t need to change any settings for it to work.
The only down side on this system is that you get an advertisement banner on the top of every page. For this little “problem” I found a little script for greasemonkey (a plugin for firefox) that removes the ads from every page you go to. Another option would be to use Adblock Plus but on the websites you disable Adblock Plus, like on your own website, HotSpot Shields ads would show.
The script for greasemonkey can be found here : http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/49307
Hope that some of you guys find this info usefull.
