Mozilla Firefox 4 review

A few things come to mind when you say Mozilla Firefox… First of all, it’s not Internet Explorer! (which is a good thing). Also the fact that it’s more secure, has a lot of nice features like the plugins, themes, it supports all the new “technologies” like html5, css3, …

What scared me a bit was that the screenshots I saw on certain websites to show off the new look and feel of Firefox 4, that it would look a lot like a combo of Opera and Google Chrome. But after installing the beta and playing a bit with it (because as a webdesigner and developer, your website should show good in every browser so I have to test it) I must say that the performance and the new look really impressed me a lot. I have to admit that some things

Webpages load a lot faster, images are rendered like in the blink of an eye, (java)scripts run more stable, … I can’t really find any downsides on the new version of this magnificent browser.

And as you can see on the website (http://www.getfirefox.com), the browser is actually up to 6 times faster then version 3.6.

Also the new plugins tab (just like how Google Chrome show their settings menu) is a nicer way instead of that popup we are all so used to.

The new Firefox menu button (like in Opera) hides a lot of extra buttons that used to use up a lot of space on your screen, where you can now get a clean view of the website without all the bull****.

The only shame is that for the people who still use Windows XP or older, you can’t get the aero-menu bar. But don’t blame Mozilla, blame Microsoft :-p
