Xtreamer.net betatester and developer

Some time ago I came across some website that promised a great media player/streaming device for a very low price. Yes, I’m talking about the xtreamer.net website.

So I decided to trust what the company promissed and pre-ordered the Xtreamer mk1 media player. A bit later, I received the device, tried it, and as they promissed, the device was remarkable for what I had to pay. It plays 1080P movies, trailers, … over the network without any problem.

The performance, … of the device might have had some issues in the beginning but for every problem that occured, (most of the times) a new patch for the firmware came out to fix it.

Just a little bit later they announced the e-TRAYz, a NAS (Network Attached Storage) for the home user, again at an affordable price. The same thing went down with the e-TRAYz, some issues, some updates, … But overall the device does what it was meant to.

With the e-TRAYz came some cool features like a webserver etc wich gave us the opportunity to interact with the device over the internet. What I hated the most was that I couldn’t see what the device was doing when I wasn’t home and with a simple script, fan.php, we could see the temperature of the system. This gave me the idea to start with the SysInfo project (all info on this project on the e-TRAYz system information page).

While I was working on this project I also started helping people on the xtreamer.net chat (IRC) if they had a problem with the Xtreamer or the e-TRAYz etc. Only a few days later I got to talking to Mavvy (a really cool dude :-p) who gave me the chance to start beta-testing for the Xtreamer and the e-TRAYz. I couldn’t find a reason not to join the beta-tester team so, what the hey, I joined.

I must say, we have a really nice group of beta-testers and developers. We sure had a few nice conversations and shared some nice ideas for both devices.

Now a few devices later, still doing what I love, still testing the devices, trying to come up with some new ideas, …

I’ll give some more info soon but for now, this will do.
